The 2012 Ride to Conquer Cancer

Last weekend’s Ride to Conquer Cancer was a massive success, raising over $4.6 million for the West Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR). Thanks to all of those who offered our team ‘Team Sundo!’ financial and moral support along the way, much appreciated.

By the way, if you are a casual rider or more hardcore, consider registering for the 2013 ride either as a team or a solo entrant. The event was not only an amazing experience for a great cause, it was brilliantly planned and executed with plenty of technical and medical support always on standby.

West Australian Institute for Medical Research

The Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the WA Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR) is a 200km cycling journey throughout the the scenic countryside of WA that I and a growing number of friends will be embarking on in October to fight cancer. The ride will be challenging but the cause is well and truly worth the effort.

Funds raised will support groundbreaking, critical cancer research being undertaken at the WAIMR, WA’s premier adult medical research institute, investigating the genetic and environmental causes of a range of diseases.

Our team is called ‘Team Sundo’, named after a close friend, Stephen Sunderland, who lost his long battle with cancer on the morning of May 14th. Stephen’s wife, Cassie, also died of cancer six years ago. They are survived by their two teenage sons, Andrew and Cameron. Stephen’s strength, optimism and dignity was an inspiration to anyone who was lucky enough to know him.
