ASX closes the week on a sour note...
This afternoon the ASX dipped into the red after US stocks touched records highs overnight with the Dow Jones Index briefly topping the 40,000 for the first time after the latest Consumer Price Index showed a cooldown for the first time in months, stoking hopes that the Federal Reserve could start cutting interest rates as soon as September. That said, the Dow ended the day slightly lower (0.1%)
Not to be outdone, the S&P/ASX 200 finished down 0.86 per cent by the end of the trading day with every sector in the red other than the materials sector.
